Odd, but there are many things that can't be found by searching either Spotlight or in a window's search thingy in the top right.
Any way to force them to go thru my drives, rescan them or whatever it is they do and make them searchable?

Ferd, I'm following the steps listed . appreciated I did this a few years ago and as I recall it wasn't completely successful. Hopefully, I'm wrong. If it is, I'll hit the 'answered my question' button. Otherwise the other.
I did do one dumb thing. I mistakenly dragged from a window's sidebar at first instead of clicking the '+' sign. What disappeared was 'Elmer's Macbook' or whatever it's called. Any idea how to get it back in the window's sidebar?

Just repeat the process. Click + and add Elmer's MacBook. Go back to Search Results, then back to Privacy, and delete Elmer's MacBook using the - option. When you return to Search Results Spotlight should rebuild the index.
